THE TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS HAS A NEW TITLE SPONSOR!

The Tournament of Champions has been the nation’s #1 Thanksgiving Tournament for the past 10 years, but now the ToC is not only an event looking to showcase great basketball talent.  The ToC is teaming up with their new title sponsor Oglethorpe, Incorporated as well as several medical facilities in the Greater Peoria Area to create a greater public awareness to a rising problem in our high school hallways and class rooms!

TEENAGE ADDICTION

Teenage Addiction is a strong force in our youth of today.  It destroys thousands of young lives with all types and levels of substance abuse.  Drugs, alcohol and opiates are finding their way into the hands of our children at an alarming rate.  That is why the ToC and Oglethorpe will be working together to help end the emotional pain and inner torment that is leading our children to the horrible depths of substance use, abuse and addiction.

Stay tuned to our website to find out more information on how parents and families can assist loved ones who are needing assistance to find the demons associated with addiction.  Oglethorpe and the ToC will be providing videos and informative literature that can hopefully end the suffering of those afflicted with substance abuse.   Oglethorpe and the ToC want each of you to know that there is help available for this in need, but most importantly, we must never give up on those we love.

The ToC would like to welcome Oglethorpe and the Darryl Strawberry Recovery Centers of Florida as its title sponsor and teammates in the fight against teen addiction and substance abuse.

THEE ToC -2016

The 2016 Tournament of Champions is returning for its 11th season and once again the event field will be made up of several elite individual talents, multiple big-time hoops programs and a star-studded cast of dunkers, shooters and ball handlers.

The Washington Invitational will feature several high level programs once again in its field.  The Washington Panthers return several key players from last season’s ToC title team.  Coach Kevin Brown has now captured four ToC crowns since the inception of the tournament and will look to make it #5 in 2016.  However, the Panthers will face some stiff competition this coming Thanksgiving when they go head to head with teams such as Proviso East, Chicago Kenwood, Chicago Uplift, Marmion Academy, Esperanza from Anaheim, California and Spartanburg Day, South Carolina.

Spartanburg Day’s uber-athletic 6’7” Jr. Zion Williamson ranks as the #1 player in the nation’s 2018 recruiting class.  Esperanza will feature slick shooting comb-guard- 6’7” Sr. Kezie Okpala who has already committed to Stanford. Union City will be led by their All-America Point Guard- 6’5” Sr. Parker Stewart who averaged 25 points and 8 assists a year ago.  The Washington Invitational will also feature several elite Illinois prospects such as- 5’9” Sr. Devin Whitelow of Washington; 6’8” Sr. Manny Patterson of Chicago Kenwood; 6’4” Sr. Tyler Chisom of Proviso East; 6’9” Jr. Mick Sullivan of Marmion Academy and the exciting brother tandem of Demarius and Markese Jacobs of Chicago Uplift.

The National Classic will be loaded once again with four super talented squads.  The Sunrise Christian Academy Buffaloes return after a two-year absence in the event.  The Buffaloes will match up with three teams that have never played in the ToC.  Wesley Christian will be the first ToC team from Kentucky to play in the event and Redemption Christian Academy will be the first ToC team from New York.  The Legacy Charter Lions of South Carolina will also be making their first ToC appearance in the event.

Sunrise will boast numerous DI prospects including 6’9” Sr. Isiah Jasey and 6’6” So. Malik Hall a transfer from Matea Valley, Illinois.  Redemption Christian has several high major prospects such as 6’6” Sr. Christopher Duarte and 6’10” Jr. Joel Mensah.  Wesley Christian has an international squad with elite players coming from Asia, Europe, Africa, South America and North America.  Six-three junior guard Benson Lin of Taiwan will run the show for the Circuit Riders.   Legacy Charter is led by 6’11” Sr. All-America Nicolas Claxton and a slew of Division I recruits.

The ToC Super Showdown (Small Schools) return to the tournament schedule with some fantastic small school teams from across the nation.  High Scoring Sicily Island, Louisiana and Faith Christian, Virginia will look to capture the Showdown title as they challenge three Illinois schools (Eureka, Chicago Perspectives, Chicago Urban Prep-Englewood) and Missouri small school power- St. Louis Miller Career Academy.

The top Showdown national players include: 7’3” Sr. Brendan Newton of Faith Christian, 6’2” Sr. Devion Dunbar of Sicily Island and 6’7” Sr. JaVonte' Perkins of Miller Career.  The top Illinois players from the Showdown include, 5’10” Jr. Marquan Williams of Perspectives and 5’5” So. Freddie Cleveland II of Urban Prep-Englewood.

Two Shootout games will also be played in the event featuring two Indiana teams versus two Illinois teams.  Illini Bluffs will tangle with Cloverdale, Indiana as 6’7” Sr. Taylor Bruninga goes head to head with 6’4” Sr. Cooper Neese (Butler) of Cloverdale.  Urbana will tangle with Indianapolis Manual as 5’5” Sr. Cologeno Dawson challenges the high scoring 6’4” Sr. Courvoisier Mc Cauley who averaged 28 points a game last season for the Redskins.
